It’s been a busy few months at ClearLife and quite a while since we updated you on our progress, so here goes…

2014 Preliminary VBT Tables

In October we added the preliminary release of the 2014 VBT primary tables to ClariNet’s live platform.

On December 8, 2014 Chris and Mark delivered a presentation at the European Life Settlements Association’s symposium on Pricing and Investment in the Life Settlements Market. The presentation reviewed the differences between the experience data underlying the 2008 VBT and the 2014 VBT tables and presented examples of the difference between NPV calculations and survival curve generation for different age, gender and tobacco cohorts.

A copy of the presentation is available here.

Actual To Expected Study

In November we were engaged by an investor to carry out an actual to expected review of its portfolio. The portfolio contained over 100 policies originated between 2009 and 2014 and had experienced a number of maturities since inception. The review looked at the evolution of net death benefit payments over time and compared the portfolio’s actual performance to what might have been expected given the life expectancies at purchase. The investor was delighted with the speed and quality of our work and has used the results of our review in its fund raising presentations.

ClariNet Version 2.0

During the summer we carried out a complete redesign of ClariNet, which was released in October. Version 2 makes much better use of screen width, adapting to suit a variety of different screen sizes. Page size and the number of images have been reduced, allowing for faster loading. We reconfigured the Home page to show only the Cases lists and saved searches you select, with search results moved to their own page. With a more modern look and feel, this is the most comprehensive ClariNet user interface improvement to date.

You can read more about the redesign and see screenshots in the October 2014 release notes available here.

Recent Improvements and New Features

Recent Improvements and New Features of note include:

  • Deterministic and probabilistic pricing: on the single policy valuation page we now show detailed scenario analysis given a purchase price and date, including realized IRR data and graphs.
  • Email notifications of case status changes: users can enable email alerts for case state changes to track the progress of a case.
  • Pricing of cases with loan payback and cash withdrawal: pricing has been extended to model repayment of policy loans and cash withdrawals.

Release Notes for the December 2014 release are available here.

And finally…

We would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you Happy Holidays and we look forward to growing our business together in 2015.
